Unifi Air First Hand Test
Finally!!! Managed to get Unifi Air with Huawei 4G Modem Bundled (with 24 months contract) today after many attempts at TM Point Jalan Burma, Georgetown Pulau Pinang. The reason being told, the modem was out of stock !! Makes me wonder why TM launched the service yet do not prepared ready-stock, but I am sure most of us are used to the “Malaysian Style”.
Enough complaining. Here’s the review.
1) I didn’t expect the modem to be such big in size (why does it have to be so big?) It’s bigger than an ordinary water bottle.
2) Setup is easy. If you do not need to customize any settings. All the default settings are displayed at the bottom of the modem. (Wifi SSID, Wifi Password). So, basically it’s just plug-n-play.
3) Speed Test. Decent. Able to get an average of 7Mbps to 15Mbps. However, kinda disapointed with the upload speed.
* I tested again the same Unifi 4G speed using a unifi prepaid/bebas sim card on phone. The average speed. 10Mbps to 15Mbps download speed. and 1Mbps to 2Mbps on upload speed, which both are better than Unifi Air? Aren’t they suppose to be the same?
Summary. I find Unifi Air is still better than ordinary Streamyx (now called Unifi Lite) for faster speed and mobility. Hopefully, the speed/coverage/service can be maintained if not better.
Cheers. JC
